Lake Como is another lovely Italian lake. The main centre on this lombard lake is the town of Como which lies at the southern end of the western branch of the lake. The traffic-free town centre is pretty with nice buildings and streets, shops and bars, the Basilica of San Fedele and the important marble cathedral not far from the lakefront promenade.
The town of Como is renowned for silk garments and several shops can be found in the centre.
Bellagio lies in the middle of lake Como at the foot of the promontory where the three branches of the lake come together. Its favourable location make Bellagio the most attractive little town on lake Como. The nice gardens of Villa Melzi can be visited, they are located along the lake opposite Tremezzo and Villa Carlotta.
The northernmost point of Bellagio offers lovely views: Menaggio, Cadenabbia and Tremezzo on one side; the lovely little town of Varenna with Villa Cipressi and Villa Monastero on the opposite shore.
Another famous location on lake Como is the town of Cernobbio, renowed for its Grand Hotel Villa d'Este.
